spread over 200,000sq m at the head of the barranco de chamoriscan, this park is one of the island's principal attractions. exotic birds -over 230 different species, many of them un-caged, include flamingoes, toucans, cranes, macaws, hornbills, peacocks and tiny hummingbirds. winding paths lead from one point of interest to another past a stream, a palm grove (there are 51 varieties among 1,000 palms), clumps of giant euphorbia, to a small island, home to a couple of white gibbons. the heated butterfly house has butterflies from all over the world, and the orchid house, said to be the first in spain, is also spectacular....

cuatro puertas was a major religious site, used for worship and sacrifice by the aboriginal people of northeastern gran canaria. it comprises four cave openings, leading into a single large chamber. an open space in front was presumably ceremonial. the site is close to the summit of a windy hill, montana de cuatro puertas. from here, you see that the whole hill is part of the otherwise vanished rim of a volcano....

reptilandia gran canaria
