this walkway, along the medieval ramparts, offers marvelous views over the city. it begins near placa de catalunya and continues past the convent and university of sant domenec to the ruined watchtower, torre gironella. for the best views, climb onto some of the newly restored towers, from where the distant peaks of the pyrenees are visible on a clear day. the walk ends at passeig arqueologic, a series of attractively landscaped gardens between the cathedral and the river galligants....
seven rocky islets, a continuation of the montgri massif, harbour a rich diversity of plant and animal life, and in 1985 they were declared spain's first marine nature reserve. local fishermen, banned from fishing in the area, feared for their livelihood; but the protection of the marine environment has been such a success that catches are up everywhere else as a result. scuba divers come from all over spain to swim among coral reefs and caves teeming with grouper, scorpion fish and spiny lobsters....

an 18th entury hospice houses this museum, which contains the most important collection of work from the olot school of painters key figures in the movement were josep berga i boix and joaquim vayreda. many of vayreda's paintings of rural life are on display, together with others by his brother maria, better known as a writer....
one of olol's tourist attractions is this 'interactive museum' above a petrol station on the edge of town, where more than 10,000 species of pyrenean bird and animal, together with sound and light effects, can be summoned to your computer screen at the touch of a button. a good place to take the children on a rainy day...
the museum of local art and history was established in 1876 and moved to its present site on the rambla in 1971. it contains archaeological discoveries from the iberian, greek and roman periods, and a collection of 19th and 20thcentury catalan art. there are several paintings by antoni tapies, a dali and a lithograph donated by joan miro. artists from figueres are well represented in the section on empordan realism. on the ground floor, a room is devoted to nards monturiol, inventor of the submarine....
tanning is one of vic's traditional industries, and this museum, housed in a bright, modern building, contains an unusual collection of leather artifacts from around the world. there are chopstick holders from china, funerary face masks from cameroon, embossed armchairs from portugal, suitcases from peru, shadow puppets from thailand, religious paintings from spain and a riding saddle from mexico. all collected by andreu colomer i munmany....
the diocesan museum contains more than 20,000 exhibits, including the most complete collection of catalan romanesque art outside barcelona. the treasures on display include frescoes and altarpieces from remote pyrenean churches, and some wonderfully lifelike 12th century wooden statues of the virgin also here are gothic religious paintings by some of catalonia's finest artists, including lluis borrassa, bernat martorell and jaume huguet. the museum is housed in a magnificent new building which opened next to the cathedral in 2002....
