SANTA AGNES DE CORONA IBIZA
Santa Agnes de Corona (Santa Agnes is one of the most remote villages on Ibiza. Set among the uplands known as Es Amunts and close to the most inhospitable part of the coast, the village has retained its Ibizan character despite its apparent closeness to the fleshpots of Sant Antoni).
The peak of Puig d'en Serra lies just to the south, while the even higher peak of Cava is a little way north-eastwards; the village is approached between almond orchards, the trees growing in startling red brown soiL.
The church, built in the early years of the last century, stands in the main square On the wall facing the village square is a statue of an Agnus Dei, or Lamb of God, perhaps a play on the village saint's name? Here you will find a few concessions to modern Ibiza a good restaurant, a great cafe/bar and a few local crafts for sale.
From close to the village dirt roads head for the coast and towards the hills On the coast the rugged cliffs around Cap Negret offer spectacular views (especially to the islands of Ses Margalidesl as you walk the coastal path, though care is needed as the path is very rocky and the cliffs here are among the highest on the island. North of the village the coast towards Cap des Mossons is as remote as it is possible to be on the island. If you are tempted this way be sure to be equipped with good walking shoes or boots and, above all, a good supply of water.
