SAN MIGUEL IBIZA

To visit Sant Miguel de Balansat (San Miguel) on a late Thursday afternoon in the square In front of the church s with local people who perform Ibizan dances to the music of an authentic band. The meaning of most of the Inces are lost in time, but many seem relate to courtship Some of the performers wear traditional costume -  men clothed in red hats, bandannas and cummerbunds, black Jackets and white trousers, the women in  black or white pleated skirts with aprons, long shawls and mantillas. The church is a fine 14^th century building, one of the oldest on the island, though the porch and patio are later. Inside, the 17^th century wall paintings in the Chapel Benirras have undergone a careful program of restoration. They are one of the few examples of their type on the Island.
