SALAFIA IBIZA

Visitors with a sense of adventure can approach the village from the Church of Sant LLorenc. This delightful building is curiously unstructured, due to its being originally built in the late 18th century, but with sections added over the following 60 years or so. Take the lane on the left side of the church. The first building passed is Can Pere Mosson, with a tall medieval refuge tower.

There is a spring here, and also an old Roman olive press which is now used as a water-trough. Continue along the rough, narrow lane to reach Balafia. One of the interesting features about both Can Pere Mosson and Balafia is that the towers and buildings are sometimes only part-white-washed and have a white cross on the exposed brick or stonework. These crosses were to ward off evil spirits.
