PORT DES TORRENT AND SANT ANTONI IBIZA

This old village port is now little more than an overflow of Sant Antoni de Portmany. Though the small beach is pleasant and the rocks on its western edge offer a good walk. A little to the west of Port des Torrent is Cala Bassa, a short bus ride from Sant Antoni. Although usually very busy, it is a beautiful bay with a beach over 200m long hemmed in by steep cliffs whose bases offer excellent snorkeling For more peace, follow the obvious path from the road end, heading inland at first, but then curving with the bay to reach the cliff top at its western edge. From here there is a fine view towards San Antonio. The next bay is Cala Roig, on the western headland of which is a well-preserved watchtower. From the tower there is an impressive view across the sea to Sa Conillera. In Ibizan legend Conellera was the birthplace of Hannibal. There is a sheltered harbor and regular boats trips are made to it from Sant Antoni.

The island is excellent for lovers of flowers and lizards, but not good for swimmers, the large number of sea urchins creating misery for poorly placed feet. For that reason it is definitely not recommended for children, though snorkelers will have a very good time.

More easily reached from Port des Torrent is Cala Tanda. Here there is a long (300m) beach that is ideal for children. There are facilities for every conceivable water sport and glass bottomed boat trips are also available.
