Over 44% of olive oil consumer worldwide comes from Spain, and it produces twice the amount of Italy and four times the amount Greece produces. The region of Jaén is the biggest producer of olive oil in Spain where over 25% of the country´s output is produced. This amounts to a staggering 10% of the world´s olive oil being produced in Jaén alone.

Amazing Antequera

The historic town of Antequera can be explored on foot, and is home to caves dating back 6,000 years, including the Cuevas de Menga and Viera, which are situated on the Granada road. La Plaza de Santiago and the church of Santa Maria de Jesus are also well worth visiting, as is the town´s museum, which hosts many treasures from days gone by.

This is home to a large colony of pink flamingos who arrive in April and stay until early September.The annual feria de Antequera takes place in August where the streets are festooned with bunting and flags, and street processions, music and dancing continue into the early hours of the morning. The Calle Infante de Don Fernando boasts many shops selling local handicrafts, gifts and earthenware.

How to get to Antequera

Fly to Granada or Malaga Airports, hire a car at the airport and Antequera is clearly signposted from both. Approx. 45 mins from Malaga and 1 hour from Granada. Or take train on Algeciras to Granada line or regular bus from both cities. Cheap flights from most UK airports to Malaga or Granada are widely available.
