MUNICIPAL FINE ARTS MUSEUM TENERIFE

It comes as a surprise, perhaps, that Tenerife's excellent Municipal Fine Arts Museum was opened in 1900, long before the tourism boom. Together with the city library, it is housed in the pleasant setting of a former Franciscan monastery. The 10 busts lined up outside are of Tenerife artists, musicians, writers and thinkers. Inside, the collection on two storeys includes the work of Canarian artists, several of historical interest, and more distinguished European works mainly covering the 17th19th centuries. Most interesting are the frequent temporary exhibitions of art works loaned by Spain's leading museums of art.
