LA LAGUNA TOWN HALL TENERIFE

At the start of Calle Obispo Rey Redondo, La Laguna's town hall or ayuntamiento is a charming building in Tenerife style. Originally constructed in the 16th century, it was rebuilt in 1822 with fine wooden panelling and a Moorish-style window. Inside, murals illustrate key events from the island's past, and the flag Alonso Fernandez de Lugo placed on Tenerife soil has been displayed here.

Next door, Casa de los Capitanes Generales (House of the Captain Generals) built in 1624, is the impressive residence of the island's military commanders. Now it is used as an exhibition space.
