ICOD DE LOS VINOS TENERIFE


One of the highlights of a tour around Tenerife is the little town of Icod. Its main attraction is the gigantic Dragon Tree known with poetic licence as the Drago Milenario, the Thousand Year Old Dragon Tree.  But Icod has other charms too. The Plaza de la Iglesia, apart from its view of the ancient drago, has a lovely 15th century church, the Iglesia de San Marcos, containing a baroque altarpiece, a fine timber ceiling and a magnificent 2mtall cross from Mexico, a masterpiece of delicate silverwork. A short distance away, the Mariposario del Drago (Butterfly Garden) is aflutter with colorful tropical butterflies. As the name makes clear, Icod is also known for its wines. Taste and buy them at shops near Plaza de la Iglesia, such as Casa del Vino or Casa del Drago.
