BAJAMAR TENERIFE

One of the oldest resorts on Tenerife, Bajamar is a sharp contrast with the glitzier newcomers on the sunny south coast and has a loyal following. Here on the extreme northern shores of the island, constant breezes and turbulent currents stir up the waves onto the black beach. For that reason bathers rarely venture into the sea. Instead, visitors do most of their swimming and sunbathing at the seashore lido and hotel pools. It's also a quieter, less crowded, less developed holiday environment precisely what attracts its devotees. Once a fishing village, Bajamar has few signs of its past, and now seems unfocused, with a long promenade and side turns, with many bars, restaurants and shops.
