TREPUCO
On the outskirts of Mao are a massive taula and talaiot which have stood for 3,000 years while Invaders have come and gone. The taula here, 4m high, is the tallest in Menorca. The complex is surrounded by a star shaped wall, built by the Duc de Crillon in 1782 when the French were laying siege to Fort Sant Felip and used Trepuco as their base. In 1931 the site was excavated by Margaret Murray, who found small boys playing on top of the overgrown taula A notice asks visitors not to climb on the ruins.
