SANT AGUSTI VELL

This is one of the hardest of Menorca's prehistoric sites to find but that makes the effort all the more rewarding and you will probably be alone with your thoughts when you get there. Take the road from Es Migjorn Gran to Sant Tomas; after 1 km, an unsigned track to your right leads to the farm of Sant Agusti. Park just off the main road and walk along this trac. At the farm gates, go right, through a gate marked cuevas; when you see a pair of litter bins you know that you have reached the site. The main attraction here is a large talaiot with a beamed roof of olive and juniper wood; once they would all have been like this but this is the only one that survives. The village was strategically situated at the head of the Binigaus gorge, and the cuevas referred to include the Cova d'en Coloms.
