PORT D'ADDAIA
Menorca's third longest natural harbor, more than 3km long and 400m wide, is popular with the yachting set because of the protection it provides from the tramuntana wind. John Armstrong, who wrote the first English guide to Menorca in 1752, described this as the most perfect place on the island, and it is certainly very attractive. From the marina you look out across the masts of the yachts to a long, woody inlet and a sea framed by cliffs and small islands this was the site of the final British invasion of Menorca in 1798, when Britain managed to capture the island without loss of life following the destruction of Fort Sant Felip by the Spanish. Inevitably a resort has mushroomed above the marina but the waterside itself remains blissfully un-spoilt.
