CALA DE SANT ESTEVE
St Stephen's Creek is named after an early Christian martyr whose remains were said to have been buried here. A deep, narrow inlet at the mouth of Mao harbor, it is mainly notable for its two military fortifications. On one side are the ruins of Fort Sant Felip on the other, reached by a tunnel, the seven sided Fort Marlborough, built by the British in the late 18th century. Unlike Fort Sant Felip, Fort Marlborough was never destroyed; it has recently been renovated and opened as a museum. This is great fun, but not for those of a nervous disposition the special effects include explosions in the underground tunnels. You can climb up to the rooftop for more peaceful views.
