Costa Nord Mallorca Valldemossa

The American actor Michael Douglas could be seen as a 21st century successor to Archduke Ludwig Salvator using his money and his influence to promote the landscapes and culture of Mallorca. In 2000 he opened Costa Nord, a multimedia cultural centre in Valldemossa devoted to Mallorca's north coast. The visit begins with a short film, narrated by Douglas, in which he describes his love for the island; it continues with a re-creation of the Archduke's yacht, the Nixe, accompanied by a commentary on his Mediterranean voyages, The shop sells a range of pricey souvenirs; there is also a cafe, a restaurant and a concert hall which attracts top international names during the Mediterranean Nights festival each summer. Costa Nord is a personal tribute to an island which, as Douglas says, has attracted 'poets, painters and yes, film stars',
