THE CHICOTE MUSEUM MADRID

Not a museum, but a cocktail bar. Founded in 1931 by Perico Chicote to 'mix drinks, lives and opinions', this art deco bar survives more on memories than present-day glamour. Photos of Frank Sinatra, Salvador Oall, Bette Davis and Ernest Hemingway line the walls, but as to who sat where and when, that depends on which waiter you ask. Chicote's museum of odd drinks and bottles has gone, but madrileños still come late for a cocktail, and at weekends it's the busiest museum in town after midnight that is.
