IGLESIA Y CONVENTO DE LAS TRINITARIAS MADRID
The Trinitarias, who wear white cassocks marked with a bold red and blue cross, are a closed order of nuns. In their 17th century church a plaque commemorates the burial place of Cervantes, author of Don Quixote. Each year on 23 April, a memorial service for Spain's most famous writer is held by Spain's Academy of Language. Authors Lope de Vega, Luis de Gongora and Francisco de Quevedo also lived near by and worshipped here. Although the church has fine paintings and a grand altarpiece, the appeal here is to follow in the footsteps of these literary giants. Visiting hours are limited to half an hour before mass, but you are not required to stay for the service itself.
