THE NESTOR MUSEUM LAS PALMAS
The life work of the island's most famous painter, Nestor Martin Fernandez de la Torre, 1887-1938, is displayed in this museum in the Pueblo Canario. His best known work, Atlantic Sea Poem (two series of four canvases) is a celebration of the island's ocean environment. Nestor was preoccupied by the effect of modern development on the island, reacting with angry denunciations and positive projects for retaining all that is best in Canarian architecture. There are examples of both in the museum. The Pueblo Canario itself is part of his resistance.
