LOS BERRAZALES GRAN CANARIA

Set at the upper end of the Barranco de Agaete, Los Berrazales used to be a spa. An old fashioned spa hotel, La Guayarmina, still has guests but their activities are somewhat restricted now that the water is all bottled under the name Cumbres de Galdar. Los Berrazales marks the start of the trail ascending inland to the high centre of the island and down to the north coast. Once it was busy with donkey traffic, grain moving one way and ground gofio the other. But the reservoirs above now retain all the water and the watermills are in ruins.
