THE HOUSE OF PICASSO Malaga
Spain's celebrated painter, Pablo Ruiz Picasso, was born in 1881 in the corner house of an elegant yellow stoned block on Plaza de la Merced. His birthplace was declared an historic artistic monument in 1983, and in 1991 it became the headquarters of the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Foundation. The centre has been created to foster cultural activities, including the promotion of contemporary art with a special emphasis on Picasso himself.
Visitors are welcome to take a look around the small area on the first floor where you can see a few photographs, memorabilia and documentation relating to Picasso's life, in addition to works by other artists. It was here that Picasso began to paint, helped by his father, an art teacher, who had recognized his young son's talent.
