The Alhambra Palace Granada
The most visited attraction in Spain, the Alhambra Palace in Granada was constructed in the mid-14th century by the Moorish rulers of Andalucia - Al Andalus. The fortress is situated on a hilly terrace on the south-eastern border of Granada, and its incredible Islamic architecture attracts visitors from all over the world.
Once the home of Muslim rulers in Granada, the palace became a Christian Palace after the reconquest of 1492, and the Palace of Charles V was constructed in 1527 within the walls of the fortress.
Decorations within the palace typify the remains of Moorish domination in Spain and illustrate the last great period of Andalucian art in Granada. Columns, stilted arches and magnificent ceiling decorations in several chambers of the interior are decorated with Arabesque designs. Renaissance design was introduced to the Alhambra Palace by Charles V between 1516 and 1556.
The construction of this incredible fortress in the 1400s was no mean feat, and visitors flock to Granada from all over the world to marvel at the intricate detail and design of this famous palace. If you intend to stay in Granada, you can either fly into Granada Airport, or Malaga Airport, which is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes drive away.
