Mijas-Pueblo
One of the most visited and popular Andalucian white towns, Mijas is situated 6km inland from Fuengirola. Narrow, cobbled streets, whitewashed houses and quaint shops selling handicrafts and gifts line the streets, along with typical Spanish restaurants, pavement cafés and bars. The famous Mijas donkey taxis take visitors through the narrow streets, and the town museum attracts hundreds of visitors with its exhibitions of old farming equipment and the history of the town. The Bullring is the only one of its kind in Spain, as it is oval in shape.
The Carromato de Max Museum is situated near the Town Hall and shows fascinating exhibits in miniature, which is a great family attraction. Mijas Racecourse is situated nearby at Cerros de Aguila, and the Hipodromo stages horse races throughout the spring and summer. If you want to enjoy some culture, visit the Hermitage of the Virgen de la Peña which dates back to 1520, and was built by the Mercedarian monks. The legend is that the patron saint who gave this place its name, appeared right on this spot in front of two shepherds. Mijas is approximately 35-40 minute´s drive from Malaga Airport.
