BENALMADENA PUERTO MARINA

Puerto Marina is one of the many new marinas which have been springing up all along the coast. When driving in (from either direction) look for the vertical sign 'Puerto Deportivo de Benalmadena' or 'Sea Life'. There is parking at the entrance.

The development is fairly small and has a harbor, surrounded by a ring of whitewashed houses, giving the appearance of a typical Andalucian village. Shops, open air bars and restaurants line the quaysides. A centerpiece is provided by a complex of luxurious apartments called Las Islas de Puerto Marina. Constructed in flamboyant style, they do appear like islands floating on the water.

The marina offers a number of attractions, to suit all age groups, from the new Sea Life Centre and mini train rides for children, to bars, restaurants and evening entertainment. Another novelty is Willow, the Mississippi-style paddle-boat; moored here permanently, It is fitted out as a restaurant and nightclub.

With its open-air cafes, restaurants and shops, Puerto Marina continues to increase in popularity, especially at weekends, attracting Spaniards and visitors alike. An ultramodern underwater lighting system, installed in the waters of the harbor, creates a magical effect at night.
