BENALMADENA COSTA MALAGA
Benalmadena Costa is, in effect, a natural extension of Torremolinos, taking over where Torremolinos leaves off. It covers a long stretch of coast lined with the type of high-rise apartment blocks which characterize this section of the Costa del Sol, along with a string of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. An attractive seafront promenade makes it possible to walk from Torremolinos all the way along the coast to Benalmadena's Puerto Marina. The area has been noticeably upgraded in recent years, partly due to the Casino and the 18-hole Torrequebrada golf course, located a short distance up into the hills. There are also facilities for waterskiing, jet skiing, windsurfing, sailing and all the popular water sports.
BENALMADENA PUEBLO
Two small inland communities present a complete contrast to the attractions on the coastal strip of Benalmadena Costa. About 1 km into the hills is Arroyo de la Miel which has developed into quite a lively centre with modern housing, shops and restaurants. Just up the road is the Tivoli World Show and Amusement Park.
Further up the hill is Benalmadena Pueblo whose origins are thought to date back to Phoenician times. This is a charming little village of narrow twisting streets and whitewashed houses. With attractive views of the coast and surrounding landscapes, it offers a rural atmosphere. The Museo Arqueologico contains some pre-Columbian exhibits, along with artifacts from Roman and early Iberian times.
