Arroyo Hondo Casares Casares
Nestling in the hillside close to Casares is the fabulous Arroyo Hondo Restaurant.
Owned and run by Christian and Noriko Robson-Burrell, this contemporary restaurant is situated just 2km from Casares and 10km inland from the coast. The countryside location is stunning, and the food is superb.
Many restaurants on the Costa del Sol offer similar menus, and there is little in the way of creative flair. Not so at Arroyo Hondo, where you will find some the most innovative cuisine in Andalucia, in a quirky, rustic environment. You are always assured a warm welcome, and the service is friendly and informative.
The menu changes regularly, but favourites include:- Timbale of smoked chicken with avocado mousse; smoked duck breast with seasonal salad and hoisin dressing; gravadlax tartare with quail´s egg and wasabi crème fraiche; roast fillet of salmon with herb crust, watercress mash and horseradish cream and steak sandwich with applewood smoked cheddar, bacon, BBQ sauce and chips. If you still have room, the desserts are to die for and include warm Belgian chocolate pudding with vanilla ice cream and white chocolate cheesecake with praline and raspberry coulis.
Sunday lunch is highly recommended, and the roast beef is the best you will find anywhere.
Popular with tourists and locals, booking is advisable. Open during summer for lunch, Tuesday to Sunday and dinner, Tuesday to Saturday. During winter, open for lunch, Tuesday to Thursday, and dinner, Thursday to Saturday.
