Antequera

Antequera is situated just 45 minute´s drive inland from Malaga Airport, and offers visitors to the Costa del Sol some wonderful outdoor pursuits, sports and things to see and do. Visit the El Chorro Lakes near Antequera for rock-climbing, hiking or walking in one of the most picturesque Andalucian landscapes. Just down the road from El Chorro, you can park up at Ardales and swim in the lake, sunbathe or enjoy a picnic at the water´s edge.

There are several good restaurants  overlooking the lakes,  serving traditional Spanish dishes and speciality meat dishes in spectacular lakeside settings. You can also take the train from Malaga to Ardales, or enjoy an easy drive up by hire car from the airport. El Torcal near Antequera is also worth a visit. This incredible rocky landscape was formed thousands of years ago by the rocks being worn away to create some moon-like formations. Antequera also boasts an impressive 18-hole golf course for sports enthusiasts, and several good horse riding centres, where riders of all ages and abilities can enjoy the Andalucian countryside on horseback. The town of Antequera is made up of whitewashed houses, narrow streets and several old churches, plus a good choice of traditional tapas bars, restaurants and pavement cafés. If you are looking for a typically Andalucian town, which is within easy reach of the Costa del Sol, but away from the hustle and bustle of the busier resorts, Antequera is a perfect holiday hideaway.
