THE ARAB BATHS GIRONA

The so-called Arab Baths are a  13th century Romanesque creation based on an earlier Moorish design and influenced by Roman styles. Nevertheless, they are one of the best preserved medieval bath houses in Spain and are definitely worth a visit. The most impressive room is the apodyterium or changing room, with an octagonal pool at its centre beneath a domed skylight supported by eight columns. From here you can walk through the frigidarium (cold chamber) and tepidarium (warm bath) to reach the caldarium, an early sauna with underground heating.
