SANT JOAN DE LES ABADESSES
The convent here was established by Wilfred the Hairy as a gift for his daughter Emma, whom he appointed the first abbess. The 9th century original has been replaced with a 12thcentury Romanesque church; its greatest treasure is its carved wooden Calvary. Other sights in this attractive town, a good place to break a journey between Ripoll and Olot, include a strangely pointed bridge over the River T er and the church of Sant Pol, with a tile sculpture of sardana dancers among the ruins.
