PORT LLIGAT
This small fishing village on the outskirts of Cadaques with boats moored on the beach and the gentle waters of the bay enclosed by an offshore island, is where the painter Salvador Dali made his home. He first moved here with his future wife Gala in 1930 and stayed permanently from 1948 until her death in 1982. His house, Casa Museu Dali, built over the ruins of a pair of fishermen's cottages, contains typical Daliesque touches - eggs on the roof, camels in the garden and a swimming pool modelled on the Alhambra in Granada.
It is now open to the public, largely as Dali left it, and a visit here provides a fascinating insight into the artist's troubled mind. Only a few visitors are allowed in at a time, so booking is essential. In summer it is also possible to take a trip on Dali's old fishing boat, Gala, passing isolated coves on the way to Cap de Creus.
