L ESCALA COSTA BRAVA

What was once just a fishing port has grown into a major holiday resort. There are several good beaches to either side of the town, especially at Cala Montgo to the south. Anchovies have been salted here ever since the Greeks landed at nearby Empuries. Local sardines are another good buy at the fish auctions which still take place by the harbour each weekday afternoon.
