CALONGE COSTA BRAVA

The old village of Calonge is split into two parts: the medieval centre, 2km from the sea, dominated by its Gothic castle; and the modern tourist resort of Sant Antoni de Calonge, with hotels, villas and campsites strung out along the coast road between Palamas and Platja d'Aro. From the village there are some pleasant drives through forests of cork and holm oak north to La Bisbal  or west to Romanya de la Selva, where a 4000 year old burial chamber stands in a lonely spot in the woods, surrounded by a stone circle.
