THE SALZILLO MUSEUM MURCIA

This is probably Murcia's most important museum, displaying a huge collection of work by the 18th century wood sculptor Francisco Salzillo, born in Murcia. He specialized in dramatic and detailed polychrome figures and scenes from the life of Christ. Most of these were designed to be carried through the streets during the Holy Week processions, as indeed they are still. The nativity scene, with over 500 rustic figures, is worth a close look.
