SANTO DOMINGO SCHOOL ORIHUELA

Founded as a Dominican monastery and now a private school, Santo Domingo's architectural heyday coincided with its later role, from 1569 to 1824, as a university. During this time the three superb doorways were added to the main facade, and the elegant cloistered patios and sweeping paneled main staircase were built. Don't miss the refectory its stunning azulejo frieze is one of the finest examples of this beautiful tile work to be seen in this part of Spain.
