SANTA MARIA CHURCH ALICANTE

Alicante's oldest church was built in the 13th century on the site of a mosque in the heart of the original Arab town. It has been frequently altered and is today a marvelous mélange of different architectural styles. The baroque doorway leads into a nave which is an outstanding example of Valencian Gothic. The great golden altar dates from the late 1400s and the font from the following century.
