CABO DE SAN MARTIN
The beautiful bay of Javea is sheltered at its southern end by the Cabo de San Martin, a rocky promontory where it is easy to escape the crowds of the nearby beaches. South of Javea a path drops from the road at the Cruz de Portichol, a stone wayside cross from where both the cape and the island of Portichol (Isla de Portitxol) are visible. This leads out to San Martin, running through clumps of lavender, thyme and rosemary, to emerge at the headland. The all-round views are excellent; north to the town and beaches of Javea, south to precipitous cliffs and the island. Other tracks lead up and down the coast, one to Cala Sardinera a secluded little beach.
