FUNDACIO ANTONI TAPIES

The Tapies Foundation was established by Catalan artist Antoni Tapies in 1984 to promote the study and understanding of modern art. It is housed in the former Montaner i Simon publishing house, built by Lluis Domenech i Montaner between 1880 and 1889. The striking Mudejarstyle facade is crowned by an eye-catching piece of art made of wire and tubing by Tapies, titled Cloud and Chair (1990). Inside, there is an exhaustive library documenting art and artists of the 20th century, and one of the most complete collections of Tapies' own works.
