One of the most traditional and colourful festivals to take place in Madrid is the annual San Cayetano and San Lorenzo Fiestas in the La Latina and Lavapies districts.
Hosted in August, to celebrate the patron saints of the same name, Madrileños take to the streets in 19th century costumes to eat, drink, dance and be merry.
Many religious processions take place in the evenings, and these are followed by numerous street parties with live singers and bands playing throughout the night, with plenty of food and drink on offer to refresh the revellers.
Celebrations take place from the first weekend in August with San Cayetano´s feast day on the 6th August around Plaza de Cascorro, followed by that of San Lorenzo on the 9th August, near the Plaza de Lavapie.
