Of all the ferias held annually in the towns and cities along the Costa Del Sol, this vibrant and passionate celebration in Malaga is certainly one of the best. Held every August for 9 days between the 11th and 20th of the month, the Malaga Feria originated to celebrate the reconquering of the city in 1487 by "Los Reyes" (The King and Queen), Isabella and Ferdinand.
The people of Malaga take great pride in their annual festival and the colour and noise created throughout the celebrations are incredible. Even in the daytime, every bar in the centre of town seems to be competing to play the loudest disco and Spanish music to the great delight of the crowds dancing in the streets. Visitors and residents mingle in the packed town centre during daylight hours and the whole city seems to vibrate with life.
Traditional Flamenco dresses are worn by many of the ladies, and the city is festooned in bunting and banners to leave you in no doubt what the feria means to the locals. There is also plenty of street entertainment to keep the children amused, and this really is a fabulous day out for the whole family.
In the evening, most of the revellers move on to the fairground where the fun continues until dawn. During feria time, Malaga really is a city that doesn´t sleep and the atmosphere is welcoming and friendly.
Getting there: .Take train, bus, or car to the centre of Malaga. There is plenty of car parking close to the city centre. You only need to follow the crowds to reach the centre of the feria.
