Castillo de La Luz
Castillo de La Luz is located on the coast of La Isleta in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and is a great place of interest in Gran Canaria to visit. Castillo de La Luz's purpose was to defend the harbour of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Built in 1541 on the foundations of an old fort, with a platform for 11 cannons, Castillo de La Luz proceeded to suffer from a fire caused by an invasion of Dutch Pirates in 1599. The castle has since been rebuilt and was named a historic monument in 1941. The fortress has been reconstructed once again and now provides a place for international and national events. Castillo de La Luz means ‘Castle of Light' in Spanish and is definitely a place of interest that should be visited whilst on holiday in Gran Canaria.
